Monday 3/7/16

It is 6th Period's 12th day of work and our final day of filming. Last-minute acts need to be finished and Q & A's need to be finished.

"Quiet on the set!"

"5,4,3,2,1 ACTION!" Chris yells.

Sophi S. records different scenes with Dr. Dusty (Chase P.) as he patiently recites his lines. The whole class is ready to get the filming over with.

"That's it. We're done!" Courtney V. exclaims enthusiastically.

The class lets out a sigh of relief, happy to be rid of the continuous filming everyday.

This is all for now. We will let you know when Dr. Dusty is out and ready for the big screens!

Our students working on their Q & A's.

Alas, this momentous day has finally come! It’s period 3’s last day of filming! Everyone suits up quickly to try and fit everything in as the rest of the class writes a reflection on the “TV in 403” project. The directors have decided to re-shoot the entire segment 1. We rush to finish it. With only seven minutes left, and technical difficulties with the script, the clock is ticking.

Wrapping it up. Today in 7th period science TV we started to put some final pieces together. We started to put the portfolio for the whole class which the directors were in control of, and the board members started to write reports and edit the video clips. The teams wrote paragraphs about their feelings towards the project and seemed to do really well considering it was VERY quiet in science class for the first time in forever. I think as we wrap up the project it will turn out the way we want it and I am very excited about the documentary and to watch the final results.

It's 6th period's 11th day of work and we are almost done filming. Everyone helps out, from setting up the scene to creating suggestions for the actors.

"5,4,3,2,1 ACTION!" CEO Chris yells, determined to finish recording.

Dr. Dusty (Chase P.) smiles and starts speaking his lines, adding emotion and expression to it. Not only did Chase use expression, but the others actors are catching on as well. The scene goes smoothly, ending with Tyler yelling, "OW! MY LEG!"

Once again, the faces of our crew turn bright red, trying to contain their laughter. The scene is completed to the relief of the class.

The next scene is all Dr. Dusty. Chase sweeps through the teaser like a natural actor, having practiced his lines the most. When he starts reciting the conclusion, the class almost falls asleep. Entertainment is definitely needed in the conclusion.

We redo the conclusion and finish it off with Dr. Dusty's famous dab.

"Have a good night!"  *dabs*

Our actors practice the hockey scene outside.

We’re almost through our second week of filming, and time is running out. To meet the deadline, we need to film today, even if one of our actresses is not here. Emily Belitsky is absent today, but the show must go on. So the beautiful and talented Lauren Fox has rejoined The Late Night Energy Show! (She was earlier replaced with Emily.) The class is rushing to start, and the actors are getting into their costumes. Lauren Fox has wrapped an orange feathered boa around her head. We did a pretty good job of re-filming the violent street fight. There seems to be a commotion about the props that explain the different types of energy. Some arguments are arising because Ben wants to light a basketball on fire, but the rest of the class disagrees. Eventually, they agree, and the tip of the basketball is lit on fire for a brief moment before Ben rushes over to blow it out.

Regrettably, Brooke Dogwood has been tragically hit by a car and is currently in the hospital.  America’s Got Science beloved host has left the show and has been replaced by our very own science explainer, Luke Royalton.  A band trip also wreaks havoc on our production because it has taken many of our classmates including our main cameraman, Paul.  As we begin production another change has been made to the script. One of our main judges, Patrick B, has been replaced by his identical twin brother Brock. Other than a different voice there is not much of a change between these two characters. We have a little trouble recording Brock’s dialogue due to the script not matching up with the act that was just performed. Once that change was made it only took one more shoot to finish the second (and last) segment of our show!
Finally, it is time to record our conclusion.  Luke Royalton gets up on stage and prepares to announce that our winner … will be right after this message from our sponsor.  HA!  Did you really think I would give that away.  I guess you will have watch the show to find out.

Where is Josh D? Where is our Host? That is a very big problem and question for the whole class. And they are scrambling to get things done before the final day, Friday. Period 1 can see the finish line, with only Segment 1 in their way. As they race to the finish everybody is in a state of chaos and question. Where is Josh D to begin? There he came. He finally ran into the room so we could begin. He put on his white science coat and we were going to get the camera rolling. We were missing some items. Where is the apple? No one has the missing apple. So, Leonie D said she has an unpeeled orange. So, Leonie D and Elle B ran as fast as lightning to Leonie’s locker to get the missing prop, the orange. We finally started Segment 1 and finished it on the second go. Good job class! Now on to editing.

It’s 6th Period’s 9th day of work and Mr. Miller is absent once again. CEO Chris Kenney attempts to get the class to work. Without the strict rule of Mr. Miller the class falls into yet another lazy state. Certain people’s obnoxious shouts and laughs can be heard echoing throughout the room...you know who you are. The class is yet to start recording.

Blogger’s Emma and Katie are desperately waiting for anything to happen. Much to their disappointment, the class continues their immature behavior. The clock’s ticking is barely audible now.

“5, 4, 3, 2, 1, ACTION!” Chris yells.

Finally, we start recording. The actors apply little to no expression and emotion in their monotone voices to everyone’s frustration. Arguments fill the classroom.

It takes yet another eternity for the camera to refilm the same act. No improvement is shown in the actor’s voices. On the third roll, the actors finally show some changes in their voices.

The now-famous vase-falling scene comes into action. Dr. Dusty throws the vase to “demonstrate energy” for the couple on stage and it comes to a crash on the floor. “OW! MY LEG!” Tyler screams from the audience. The whole class laughs.

In the middle of the next act our Dr. Dusty sign falls off the wall. “God’s cursing us!” Tyler exclaims. The class erupts into laughter once again. Again, off topic, the class gets into a heated argument on predicting who is not going to do their homework. What’s going down next?

The sign falls again. Maybe God is cursing us.

The class comes to the conclusion to get Tyler - out of all people -  to hold the sign. Two seconds into holding the sign Tyler complains: “My arms are tired!”.

Before we know it, the class is over. It has been a very eventful day. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.

Students attempt to fix our Dr. Dusty sign.

Today in SPSN, Connor, Gwen, and Emma are chillaxing behind the camera. Nathan is the only host today that gets the spotlight. He’s all suited up and ready to go. We had a special guest appearance on the show today. Mr. Mumford came all the way from the Technology Room to record a piece of the TV show. After many, many takes we have finally finished recording the main part of the show. ONLY DEMOS LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!

Today was a regular day when filming SPSN. The room is  filled with kids eager to get to work and get the job done. In the studio you will find, Erin behind the video camera recording all the footage. She is hard at work with the easiest possible job in this process. Her fingers are ready to press the button. The hosts Gwen, Connor, Nathan, and Emma have found their character and voice throughout these last couple of days. They have their game faces on when in front of the camera while recording the 1st and 2nd segment.

That's all for today see you tomorrow!

Mr. Miller's back on 6th Period's 10th day of work. Right off the bat, we start filming - there's a first time for everything.

"3,2,1 get her done!" Tyler shouts, signaling the camera.

Sam H. and Chris K., starring as Pablo and Pele, walk onto the stage. Pablo, having been hit on the head with a coconut, wanders around before he finds his seat. He trips over his words and zones out - a good thing in this situation. Because of Pablo's exceptional acting, Dr. Dusty and Pele can't help cracking up while the camera is still rolling.

"Again! Quiet on the set!"

More problems arise throughout the period. Videos are misplaced, important scenes are erased, and actors aren't speaking up. Irritation takes over the room.

Before things turn into a complete disaster, the actors begin to pick up the pace. We finish up the scene as the bell rings. Phew!

Demetrius Long is missing… Oh No!  One of our major actors, Dominic, is absent on the sixth day of recording.  This dilemma could not come at a worse time because today is the day we were going to record his segment.  Krista made a split second choice of having Scott fill in; this decision erupts an argument between her and our teacher about losing the integrity of the show by substituting one of our actors.  After explaining that Dominic has not been in any part of the TV show Mr. Miller agrees that it would be okay to sub in Scott for Dominic.
Twenty five minutes into the period and we already completed Christian Springs Radiant Act.  Right when we think there are no more obstacles Taylor admits that she is not feeling well.  She is offered the chance to go to the nurse but she says she will wait until after she is finished shooting.  After all, the show must go on!  But after her shoot Mr. Miller announces that “Brooke Dogwood has left the building.”
Next up is Demetrius Long performing “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” with two backup dancers... this should be interesting.  Scott sings through the song but he does not sing loud enough so he has to sing it once again.  Looking around the room during his performance I see red faces and tears streaming.  Perfection!

Today, our teacher, Mr. Miller isn’t here, but we still have to work on filming. We broke a mug and had to hot glue it, but except for that, all of our props are in order. Head script writer, Nicole, is taking control of the class as Dom and G preparing for another one of their shoots. We just finished shooting a segment with Carnell and how football relates to energy. In the segment, they throw a football, but G can’t throw it for his life. And that’s a wrap! We have successfully finished filming this segment. Now we have begun to film Mrs. Frizzle coming on as a guest for the show. Mrs. Frizzle is the star of the age old elementary tv show, The Magic School Bus.

It is a blustery day here at Sandy Run Middle School, as 3rd period science jumps right into recording The Late Night Energy Show. Everyone suits up, literally, to look fancy. Tyler Brown is preparing to act as a scientist and point out certain types of energy that occur in a violent fight. Sam Frezel is also preparing for shooting a segment as the head scientist at Short Circuit Labs. Emily Belitsky is in this skit as well. There is conflict as we are trying to fix some things in this scene to make everything as perfect as possible.

The countdown started and the class had started, but we haven't started filming. The agenda for the day was to film Segment 2. While the class was setting up we had some camera bugs and problems affecting the start of our class. Logan C was at the camera and it was having minor malfunctions and that was a problem, but superhero Mr. Miller came to the rescue. We started setting up our crazy and energetic science experiments. We all got things ready but when are we starting? That was the big question. The clock was ticking down even more. With the production crew hard at work again the set was built in no time. The production of the TV show finally started at 8:13. The camera was rolling and we started segment 2. All of us being taught by Josh’s teachings of the different types of energy. With only a couple of blooper moments they got it under control. This show was still on a roll. Joe W, Logan C, and Kayla B were having the cameras with all eyes on Josh D. Andre F was a fabulous alien he really made the show feel like we were on a different planet. The rest of the class there were ups and downs, but this show will be great if we all work together. With a few extra minutes we were able to film the intro to Segment 2. Perfect! Good job Power Planet Workshop! This show is really going to be a fabulous show with all of our Period 1 stars.

Even though Mr.Miller wasn't here that didn’t stop period 1. They worked to their fullest right from the beginning. Their goal in mind was to finish the PSA and Commercial. They started off with the PSA and knocked it out of the ball park. On their first try they finished the PSA with no flaws. They were perfect at getting the PSA done which will keep everyone safe and not get the idea to Bungee Jump. Matt M, Kayla B, Tristan F, and Logan H were amazing on the camera keeping everyone safe. Next the “Galaxy Gum” commercial, The production crew quickly changed the set of the stage and they began. Again on their first try they accomplished doing the “Galaxy Gum” commercial. The commercial for Galaxy Gum is going to be a hit. Everyone will love the idea and rush to the nearest store to buy our amazing product. This day was very productive, go team!

Well it’s Monday people and we are all tired and out of it. It's the end of the day and we started segment one. So far it’s going well, but we keep forgetting small parts so are taking many takes. In my opinion the scripts kinda dry right now, but with these personalities I know it will get better. Hopefully throughout the rest of the period we will finish this up and move on. That’s all for today friends see ya tomorrow!!

Today we started to shoot demos and outdoor commercials. The cold was unbearable and as I’m typing this my fingers are freezing off and my Chromebook is being held by my good pal Sabrina Pulli. We are shooting the mento and soda explosion out here and then will start on the baseball commercial ad. I will play a small part in this. Jackie Gorman had a hard time reading her lines without laughing in the mento demo. Ha ha. It took about 10 takes but we finally got it. In the baseball commercial Bazel tried over and over to hit the ball and got his beloved white shoes muddy but once we finished it was a “grand slam”.Today has been a harsh winters day in seventh period science.

It is the 8th day of work and as usual it takes a while for everyone to get situated. Tyler J. is staggering around the classroom with a crooked white wig and fake bosoms.
"What do you not touch?" CEO Chris K. repeats to Tyler.
"My bosoms!" Tyler squeals.

The camera starts rolling and Tyler's forced high-pitched voice echoes throughout the classroom. The class takes in a collective gasp to keep from bursting out in laughter. As Dr. Dusty starts talking, Tyler adjusts and readjusts his crazy wig and crosses his legs - very ladylike.
"Cut!"
The whole class cracks up as Tyler rips off his wigs and pulls of his yellow dress to reveal his boy clothes underneath.

"3,2,1, ACTION!"  CEO Chris exclaims. The cameras start rolling.

Mrs. Force (Mikayla) does a stunning performance with her cartwheel. Mr. Force (Tyler)...not so much. The class gasps together and Tyler falls to the ground.
"Aye! Que pena!" is heard in the distance. (Oh! What a shame! - creds to Senora Rongione)

No one realizes the clock has been ticking this whole time. Chris urges the actors to hurry up and finish before the bell rings. The Force's redo the act one more time now using more natural voices. The class finished on a good note.

Sure it’s the beginning of a full week, and sure most of the class is in a mad, sleep-deprived haze, but that doesn’t stop period 3 from getting to work on our show. We’re only ten minutes into class, and our “Late Night Energy Show” sign has already been ripped by Ben Rosenthal, lead production manager. Filming has been delayed by this tragedy, so the class is feeling anxious. Hopefully, we can meet our deadline. 20 minutes into the period, and we still haven’t started because of some issues involving a whiteboard. The leaders have a new plan to make a concrete schedule so problems like this won’t happen again. Jordan is trying to get G to speak louder. Ben is playing the role of Benji, a peppy guest who is very knowledgeable about the law of conservation of energy. Benji and the hosts talk about it while eating chips in an awkward silence. The rest of the class can’t help but crack up.

Writing, writing, and more writing, the script commercials had to be finished by the end of this class. Perfect! The production team was hard at working in creating the set while the brains of Tiffanie B, Cara G, Sophia K, and John L were writing the scripts to our hilarious and entertaining commercials. As a team they got what done what they were suppose to do. The actors were practicing as a group getting the setting the script perfect.

Kayla B and Leonie D started to get the  job done taking pictures and recording videos of all the commotion going on, on this very important first day.

Unlike yesterday when everyone was a lazy bunch of snails, our crew steps up their game and gets to work. The room is brimming with energy. Our actors quickly change into their costumes, the production team can be seen setting up the scene and holding cameras, and the rest are typing suggestions, silent but ready.

"Quiet on the set!" Mr. Miller yells.
"3, 2, 1, action!"

Yet again, we are filming the Brights, two of Dr. Dusty's clients. Our actors are practicing improvising with their lines to sound less awkward. To everyone's relief, we get through the whole act without a single mistake.

The next couple, the Speedy's, steal the show once again. The actors starring as the Speedy's, Jackie R. and Jason W., run onto the stage and dash through their lines. The actors make a few mistakes, so substitute CEO, Chase P., decides to run the act again. Arguments over whether the Speedy's and Dr. Dusty should "dab" on stage are heard throughout the classroom.

The class tenses as the camera rolls. A sigh of relief is let out when Chase yells "cut!" to signal that the act is OK.

The next couple up is verryy interesting. The tallest girl in our grade, Jackie VB, and tiny little Ciaran S. walk onto stage as the class murmurs and giggles. Jackie and Ciaran star as the Cores, as Jackie is dressed in a green shirt holding a green apple, and Ciaran is dressed in a red shirt holding a red apple.

Thankfully, Jackie and Ciaran use much more expression in their voices. Unfortunately, the actors are having a lot of trouble reading their lines from the cue cards on the Chromebooks placed around the room. Mr. Miller recommends using an app called Teleprompter, so the class downloads it.

The act sounds so much better on the final roll.

It's the last day of the week, but period 3 is still going strong. There is no time to waste as everyone quickly goes to their positions. Today, we're filming a commercial for Bonanza Bean Coffee, that gives you an incredible burst of energy. The actors, Nick Gigliotti, Lea Crespy, Nicole Huggins, and Emily Belitsky, along with the directors, are trying to perfect this commercial. After they drink the coffee, Nicole and Lea start talking super fast, one of their best talents. The majority of people still think that Nick needs to perfect some of his lines and speak louder and faster. Later, we move on to filming Teaser #1. As we set up the room for Dom and G's talk show, stage crew decides lighting and camera angles, while the hosts are in their suits, ready to go.

After completing the introduction in the first ten minutes of class we move on to the first teaser.  Here we hit a few more bumps in the road.  Now that Taylor is getting into her character content is no longer the problem, it is teaching the science.  Krista reads over the script to Mr. Miller to check that we have all the information we need to teach the science.  Once he makes the rightful science corrections David calls action and we shoot the segment again.  What we thought was going to be the perfect shoot was stopped after the teleprompter had a bit of technical difficulty.
Four shots later we finally complete the teaser for segment one.  Now for the part we have all been waiting for.. the actual contestants and their amazing acts.  Because we are missing the huge rubber bands (thanks 3rd period) we change from a rubber band to a giant balloon.  Right before we begin to shoot Mr. Miller miraculously finds another supply of giant rubber bands and the whole world is right again, thank God.
Joshua Mason (aka Jack) is ready to before his rubber band shoot, but Mr. Miller calls four minutes.  We rush through the first segment and luckily we are able to complete the first part of the segment.

Explosions, ruckus, the class started out a mess. After, the chaotic nightmare period 1 got it all back together and began filming commercial 3 selling “Enerspray”. Actors Sophia K as the little girl not wanting to get up, Alisha P as the loving, yet annoyed mom, and Matt M as the Narrator behind the camera. They set up all the props and began shooting this energy-filled commercial. They had a few blooper moments in the beginning, but they got it perfect on the 3rd try. Now the commercial is perfect.

It's a lazy day on our 6th day of work because we are limited to a mere 28 minutes of work. No one seems to be focused today. The actors are nowhere to be seen. Also, without the guidance of CEO Chris and our host Chase forced to take the lead, everything is slowly falling apart. After all, Chris has been guiding us through this whole show so far and we don't know what lies in Chase and what potential he has as a leader.

Finally, after 10 minutes...nothing has been accomplished. Lauren L. and Sophi S. are adjusting the camera while everyone else slugs around. After an eternity of blogger Emma and Katie's impatience, the actors finally start filming.

The actors speak awkwardly and slowly as if they never practiced their lines before. Every single actor needs to work on expressing their selves and show emotion. However, after countless reminders of this handy advice, every single actor still disregards this. Mr. Miller isn't pleased with the quality of our show and shows the actors how to give voice.

After a couple tries, the actors seem to be putting a little more entertainment into the show. Before we know it, the class is over. The class clears the stage and leave with higher hopes and expectations for the next day.
